Rupert Friend as Demetrius: The Last Legion

The Last Legion is a fantasy action-adventure in the vein of The Sword and the Stone set against the Fall of Rome and its last emperor, 12 year-old Romulus Augustus, the boy who would rule for a day before losing all that he loved: his family, his home. and an empire that once stood for truth and honor. Imprisoned on the island-fortress of Capri, Romulus searches for a means to escape. He discovers instead “Exaliburnus”, the legendary sword of Julius Caesar, and realizes that he must do all in his power to save Rome. Aided by the clever strategies of his teacher Ambrosinus and the heroic skills of his loyal legionnaire Aurelius, Romulus escapes the island. Accompanied by his friends and a mysterious envoy from Constantinople, Romulus travels to Britannia in search of the last Roman Legion – the fabled Dragon Legion. There, Romulus will fight alongside his friends to make his last stand for Rome and take his first steps to becoming a man and he king who would father a legend. (*) Rupert plays one of the loyal legionaries of General Aurelio, Demetrius. They will fight together to the end protecting the young emperor Romulus and their homeland.

The Last Legion (2007)
Directed by: Doug Lefler
Writing Credits (WGA): Jez Butterworth (screenplay) and Tom Butterworth (screenplay); Carlo Carlei (story), Peter Rader (story) and Valerio Manfredi (story)
Cast: Colin Firth, Ben Kingsley, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Peter Mullan, Rupert Friend.

Undoubtedly, the introduction of his character could not be better :), but to be truly objective, I must say that the movie was a little disappointing to me broadly, and specifically if we talk about Rupert’s character. Only a few dialogues without much importance. It could say that in this film, Rupert could only demonstrate his skills with the sword.

So I felt a little relieved when I read that Rupert himself described this film as “a very terrible Roman film” (*). But despite that, he had some scenes worthy of mention in which, once again, with only the power of his look, filled the screen.

This was just a sample, you have more screencaps (and some BTS) of Rupert from this film, as usual, in the gallery by clicking on this link. Unfortunately, there is no more information than I could get about Rupert and this film.

  1. I’m just so glad he doesn’t die in that movie!! Lol. Got this used off Amazon, haven’t watched it yet. Looking forward to all the time he spends shirtless. 😉
