One of the international celebrities who have been at the International Film Festival of Guanajuato is the British actor [Rupert], who said he’s fan of the Mexican director. British actor Rupert Friend, who plays Mr. Wickham in “Pride and Prejudice” and worked with Colin Firth (“The King’s Speech”) in his directorial debut… is a fan of Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu!
“I think Alejandro Gonzalez Iñarritu is one of the great directors of cinema, not only of Mexican cinema, but in general. I think ‘Babel’ is an amazing film, ‘Amores Perros’, ད grams’… I’ve watched almost all his films, I haven’t watched ‘Biutiful’, but working with him should be very good“, Friend said in an interview yesterday for Quien.com in San Miguel de Allende during the opening of the International Film Festival of Guanajuato.
The actor attended the premiere, before more than a thousand people who filled the Alamedasu cinema, of his first short film, “Steve”, also starred by Kiera Knightley.
“It’s a short story that I wrote and sent to Colin Firth, which makes me very proud because he was very excited to do the main role. Anyone who watched ‘The King’s Speech’ can tell that Colin is a very talented actor and this film is a way to show another side of him as an actor, he had all the freedom“, he added.
Precisely on his role as director, Friend said he felt fine, “What I enjoyed most was the collaboration. Having all this group of people working without egos, no nonsense, just working together for a project, it was absolutely magical. I had a great team (…) I would like to make a film because 15 minutes are not enough“.
For Rupert’s fans there is good news because his next film will be released in August (2011).
“There’s a movie that will be released in August, I think so, the title is still not clear, but it is about the war between Georgia and Russia, with Val Kilmer and Andy Garcia, is high-octane action. I’m an American journalist, war correspondent, who is accused of espionage and has to publish the truth to the public before being killed“.
In this film the actor could learn more about one of the bloodiest armed conflicts:
“Basically I studied a lot about the armed conflict in Russia, I investigated the journalist who reinvented the genre showing his emotions through the texts. Besides being in Georgia filming, it was a great experience and a great learning“.
Rupert showed his naturalness while walking the streets of San Miguel de Allende when he finished the opening of the film festival, and he took pictures with some fans who asked.
